What Success Is Not!

Today, my cousin and I were opportuned to have ice cream with someone who is interested in helping teens look further than the 'now' of things. She also gave us a book by John Hagee titled '7 Secrets of Success for the Graduate'. I started reading the book already and the first chapter is 'what success is not'. I thought to share that piece with y'all! 

• Success is not Money; money can buy you legions of people the book said, but it can't buy you the treasure of one true friend. Money is beautiful but having money doesn't guarantee your happiness and success.

• Success is not reaching a goal; goals must be targets and not terminal destinations. You should not limite yourself to a particular goal and neglect the other part of your existence. 

• Success is not power; you could you be the most powerful but not the most successful! 

• Success is not having it all; Leo Tolstoy tells the story of a rich man who always wanted more. He heard he could get all the land he could walk round in a single day as long as he returned to the starting point by sundown. He did his best he ran and he eventually did get to the starting point only that he died that moment! The title of the story is "how much land does a man need?" Tolstoy concluded by saying, "six feet from his head to his heels was all he needed". Success is not having it all.

• Success is not determined by your circumstance; Ben Carson despite being seen as stupid became successful, Helen Keller was born blind and deaf, yet she graduated with honors, Michael Jordan the greatest basketball player was cut from his high school team, Billionaire Bill Gates was a college drop out. Despite their 'circumstances' they were successful still.

• Success is not maintaining the status quo; success is not living by what has been 'claimed' to be what success is.

• Success is not avoiding criticism; it is impossible to avoid criticism on the way to success. Learning to receive this criticism without fear on the other hand is what success is.
